The Grackle is in the same family as the Starling, however, it sounds like the evil twin. Grackle are known to congregate in large flocks. They take over rooftops, large trees, lampposts, and long wires.
This species of bird does not have the same diet as its relative. Grackle are attracted to trash and food debris. They are commonly found swarming restaurant parking lots, fast food joints, and residential trash cans. These birds enjoy citrus which make them a pest to agricultural areas with citrus crops. Due to their diet of choice, their droppings are very harmful in many ways. First and foremost, their secretions can cause the spread of various diseases. Remember how they enjoy the rooftop view? Build-up of their feces can actually cause structural damage. Their acidic droppings can damage paint, stone, or metal and corrode rooftop A/C units, solar panels, and more. Grackle also attack other birds. This species is known to be unfriendly, therefore, you should not attempt to catch it on your own. Allow animal and pest control to safely remove the Grackle from your commercial and residential area. |
